Over the one-month period to August 2026, the Pula depreciated by 1.1 percent against the South African rand but appreciated by 0.6 percent against the IMF Special Drawing Rights (SDR). Against the SDR constituent currencies, the Pula appreciated by 0.9 percent against the US dollar, 0.6 percent each against the Japanese yen and the Chinese renminbi and 0.3 percent each against the British pound and the euro.
On a year-on-year basis to August 2026, the Pula depreciated by 7.2 percent against the South African rand but appreciated by 1.9 percent against the SDR. Against the SDR constituent currencies, the Pula appreciated by 10.7 percent against the Japanese yen, 2.6 percent against the euro, 1.9 percent against the US dollar and 1.5 percent against the British pound. However, it depreciated by 3.9 percent against the Chinese renminbi.
