The 2025 Governors’ Symposium, held as part of the Bank of Botswana’s 50th anniversary celebrations, focused on the theme “Enhancing Resilience – Building Stronger Economies to Navigate Economic Challenges for Sustainable Economic Growth.” Discussions underscored the importance of maintaining macroeconomic stability through credible fiscal, monetary and exchange rate policy frameworks. Key priorities highlighted included driving economic transformation through private sector-led growth, innovation, product and export diversification, as well as addressing the impact of climate change. The symposium also emphasised the need for strong governance, supported by robust and transparent institutions, alongside enhanced external resilience through deeper regional integration and participation in global value chains, such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA). Collectively, these strategies aim to strengthen Botswana’s capacity to withstand economic shocks and achieve long-term sustainable growth.
